A chosen/affirmed name is not always the same as the name one was given when they were born. 

It is common among transgender and gender non-conforming youth to use a chosen/affirmed name as a way to validate their identity as transgender and/or gender non-conforming. Chosen/affirmed names, though, are not necessarily the same as nicknames, and should be considered separately.
