Microaggressions are comments or actions that subtly express a prejudiced attitude toward a member of a marginalized group
Microaggressions can be perpetrated directly by individuals, such as through interpersonal communication. These may be intentional (e.g., using slurs or discriminatory language) or unintentional (e.g., unknowingly using outdated terminology).
Microaggressions may also be indirectly experienced from a LGBTQIA+ persons’ surrounding environment (e.g., seeing heteronormative stereotypes or enactment of anti-LGBTQIA+ policies).
