Microaggressions and the LGBTQIA+ Community

Microaggressions are comments or actions that subtly express a prejudiced attitude toward a member of a marginalized group

Microaggressions can be perpetrated directly by individuals, such as through interpersonal communication. These may be intentional (e.g., using slurs or discriminatory language) or unintentional (e.g., unknowingly using outdated terminology).

Microaggressions may also be indirectly experienced from a LGBTQIA+ persons’ surrounding environment (e.g., seeing heteronormative stereotypes or enactment of anti-LGBTQIA+ policies).

This image contains text taken in note form. It reads: 11:59 My mom used the wrong pronouns. She corrected herself. It's getting easy on her and I'm happier that it's not a struggle anymore. 12:53 A family friend I haven't seen in a while remembered my chosen name. It was nice that someone that I don't see often remembered. 4:30 My grandma deadnamed me again, I'm honestly questioning if she's trying at this point. 4:59 A church near me had a sign saying "Take a stand for marriage" I saw red. Why can't people let us be? I never been so angry.
